Personal Mythologies is the first exhibition of the Julien Cadet gallery in its new Parisian space.
This group show takes place in a global context in which the question of identity is at the center of discussions, particularly due to the closing of borders, demonstrations denouncing police violence against African-Americans and, more generally, growing socio-economic inequalities in times of economic crisis.
We are proud to present the work of four international artists: Cydne Jasmin Coleby, Monica Kim Garza, Anuar Khalifi and Basil Kincaid whose works reflect their personal mythologies.
In a world where culture is increasingly globalized, their singular works address the work on memory, whether familial, ancestral or collective, inspired by their own history but also that of their loved ones and their origins. They confide moments of gratitude, sorrow or intense emotions whose autobiographical veracity does not necessarily matter.
These representations of experiences, fantasies or memories are revealed in the gallery in a wide variety of forms ranging from painting on canvas to quilts, collages and various techniques on paper.
